“Green Canteen” seal awarded to company canteen
80 percent of criteria met, focus on regionality and sustainability and many changes to catering and purchasing: the company canteen at the Freudenberg Group's Weinheim site has now been awarded the “Green Canteen” seal. The award of the seal is based on a holistic assessment of a business using scientifically proven criteria for sustainable catering. “The award would not have been possible without the commitment of our service and kitchen team in Catering Services under the leadership of Alexander Thiel, Director Catering & Canteen Service and Philipp Kögel, Teamlead Cook and all our dedicated colleagues who made this success possible with their efforts. My thanks go to them,” said Esther Loidl, Head of Human Resources, at the award ceremony. “We are delighted with the seal and will continue to work in the future to offer a healthy, tasty, regional and sustainable gastronomic offering that provides Freudenberg employees with the best possible care and increases their well-being,” added Alexander Thiel.
What exactly has been implemented? Sustainable and regional purchasing reduces the environmental impact by shortening transportation routes and reducing CO2 emissions. By working with local producers, short delivery routes are created and the regional economy is strengthened at the same time. Buying products from sustainable animal husbandry also helps to reduce environmental impacts such as water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.
With an expanded range of vegetarian and vegan dishes, the company catering department is sending out a clear signal for a more climate-friendly and enjoyable food culture - without losing sight of taste.
At the same time, the team has implemented innovative solutions to minimize waste, for example by better planning the use of leftovers. In addition, single-use plastic has been consistently reduced and a recycling system established.
